This is one of the most loved of all Thai desserts, and rightly so. It is both simple and decadent, and if you cannot make the trip to Thailand, make it yourself. Khao Niew Ma-Muang is prepared by steaming Thai sticky - or glutinous - rice in rich coconut milk and sugar. The sweet and creamy sticky rice is served with lush, ripe mango (or sometimes durian). These two tastes together stimulate the taste buds and often cause the consumer to close their eyes in ecstasy. It is sometimes eaten with toasted sesame seeds as a garnish.
The best type of mango to eat with Coconut Sticky rice usually is Nam Dok Mai (Flower Fragrant Mango). Since mango and durian are tropical fruits that are available in abundance in summer (Feb - May), don't ever miss this dessert for your summertime trip in Thailand.
